Uruguay: Grows the rejection to mega mining

Uruguay defends the Earth and its natural assets, against the metalliferous megaminería opencast.

After discussing different proposals for action, some already in process of implementation, such as the departmental referendums, was considered the relevance of a campaign of collecting signatures for a national plebiscite which prohibits the megaminería in the country.

With the agreement to continue to work in a coordinated manner, they form a national movement whose first joint action will be the Organization of a large March in defense of the land and its natural assets, to be held on 12 October in the city of Montevideo.

The new big public demonstration must exceed the previous calls under the broad and diverse opposition that grows in all Uruguay to projects in megaminería, and in particular the Aratiri mining vent and port of deep waters in the Ocean coast.
