Nicaragua: College mass marched for the environment

Defending the ecological environment of the River San Juan of Nicaragua
Not less than 20 thousand Nicaraguans University marched in the city of León, by the world's environment day which is held every June 5.

The students demanded the salvation of the plentiful tributary of Nicaragua affected by the construction of a road in territory of Costa Rica, causing serious damage in the area in accordance with environmental agencies.

March was made to raise awareness about the urgent need to work for the salvation of the Earth and its resources, and to support the yellow alert decreed by the Government on the border with Costa Rica.

The March that covered 20 kilometers of extension was also intended to raise awareness in the Nicaraguan people on the need to save the ecological environment of the River San Juan of Nicaragua because there is environmental damage involving even the Nicaraguan waterway by the construction of the Costa Rican road on the South Bank of that country.

The concern is growing since thousands of rural families in the region bordering Costa Rica are at a serious risk to the flooding that the rains will cause, and whose currents will not circulate by part of the River affected by the sedimentation caused by the Costa Rican work.
