They suffer military and environmental aggression |
The communities belonging to the Civic Council of popular organizations and indigenous Honduras are threatened by manoeuvres for militarization and the theft of natural assets.
For this reason, have been denounced municipal authorities and transnational corporations wanting to privatize natural resources as the waters of the rivers Guarajambala, San Juan, Torola, Lempa and Chinacla.
But mining is also another factor of aggression to the environment in the region. And the possible adoption of a law of mining and hydrocarbons are concerned just when the tri-national border plan between Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras has been reactivated.
The tri-national plan includes more than 40 projects, mining and hydroelectric, including the privatization of forests, tourist, wind and exploitation of the so-called "rare lands".
It is also the plan of formation of military elite in the area. Former officers of the Honduran armed forces are responsible for the project which recruits young people.
