Chile: Barrick Gold violates ILO 169 Convention

The community indigenous Colla de Rio Jorquera, denounced the company Minera Cerro Casale of Barrick Gold property, violates the international treaty on human rights (ILO Convention 169) which requires the prior, free and informed consultation to indigenous communities which are affected in their lands or territories.
 

According to the President of the community, Roberto Carlos Salinas, the company does not acknowledge to the community in its environmental reports and has also caused damage with perforations, which had altered the biodiversity and the customs of the inhabitants.

The community has called to reject the "Luciano project" of the mining company by many irregularities, and because their behavior is very aggressive against the community. "Is a company that has a history of lies, corruption and manipulation of the communities where located their projects", say villagers.
