Brazil: Amazon threatened by decline of the rain

Black future for Amazon
Between 12% and 21% the rainfall decreased in the Amazon due to which forests are being replaced by crops, causing the moisture that is lessening, and in turn, reducing rainfall.

The deforestation to large-scale in the Amazon will cause a drop in rainfall of 12% in the wet season and 21% in the dry by the year 2050, according to a British study published the journal "Nature".

Experts fear that these changes adversely affect the agricultural sector, which generates 15 billion dollars a year in the Amazon, as well as the hydroelectric industry, which provides 65% of the electricity of Brazil.

Each year the deforestation was in 50 thousand square kilometers of forests between the tropics, approximately the same surface area of England.

Vegetation gives off moisture from the ground into the atmosphere in a process known as evapotranspiration, which influences the amount of rain.

When forests are replaced by pasture or crops, the soil moisture decreases, reducing in turn the humidity and precipitation.
