Argentina: Mapuche reject exploitation of uranium

In silence the project advances to squeeze uranium.
The Argentine State, in an attitude derogatory with the situation of the Limonau community, continues to drive the "uranium Lake project serve", in Santa Cruz.

Faced with this situation, the regional Confederation Mapuche-Tehuelche Aboriginal peoples and members of the Mapuche Limonau community of the "Paraje Laguna sirven" are warning to the various State bodies on the problems that already are affecting indigenous communities.

However, the progress of the "Laguna uranium project sirven", in the ancestral lands of the native mapuche community of the Limonau, are still sowing fear because the environmental impact generated by the exploitation of uranium in that region would be irreparable.

Argentina advances in a revival of uranium mining plan because it is necessary to remove the amount of ore needed to meet current and future nuclear power plants. In the past four years remained in the search for uranium in 9 provinces, increasing scan tasks by 300%.

Meanwhile, there are the background: in Argentina there are seven uranium deposit holdings which have been sanitized, which added around 4,700 tons of environmental liabilities.
