Colombia: Police repress farmers

Colombia: Police repress farmers

Members of the Colombian security forces suppressed the peaceful demonstrations of coffee farmers, despite the fact that they have the permissions of the local governorates.

The Colombian coffee growers, despite the strong repression, remain national strike demanding President Juan Manuel Santos who treats them and pay attention to their just demands.

Farmers complained that they have been attacked with teargas, despite walking the path that had indicated them. The use of the Government's force excessive against a civilian population disarmed, to try to break the strike. Has reported about 75 wounded.

The strikers are asking the central Government to listen to them and to review all the signed trade agreement.

More than 550 thousand families are living of the production and marketing of coffee and they see how their imports goes down more than the other countries and they feel very affected by credit and the lack of subsidy for what is required that reduce inputs to attack pests that affect the coffee.
